Marguerite King
The jellyfish is a central motif within Marguerite’s current practice. Through the symbolic use of the Jellyfish, Marguerite is able to explore themes around mental health. In conversation, Marguerite expresses how the jellyfish evokes a sense of weightlessness; it floats, isolated in a dark abyss, beautiful yet sinister.
Marguerite paints using acrylic inks; her earlier works demonstrate the vibrancy in colour these inks can produce. Recently, Marguerite has been experimenting with dialling back the colour to achieve a more diluted look. For Marguerite, this development has coincided with her embracing a more abstract form that contains fewer details than her previous works.
