Ella McGrath
Ella primarily creates her art in acrylic paint on canvas as well as coloured pencil on paper. Ella works rapidly with paint, and with a focus on abstract works that feature boldness in colour, texture, and brushstroke. Within each work, Ella chooses colour intuitively, with a fondness for vibrancy, and high contrast. She describes her process as open ended and playful, and that usually she just “starts without planning and seeing what happens”
Ella has become increasingly confident in her practice in the studios and can often be found working in her sketchbook, following a simple line and colour process, similar to neurographic drawing. This thoughtful and playful process creates contrasting segments full of colour.
While Ella’s works are bold, fun, and vibrant, Ella describes her creative process as calming and absorbing. “Painting and drawing helped me find purpose again. It helps quieten my thoughts, and helps with anxiety… Plus its fun!”
