Vivien McDonald’s artwork focuses mainly on portraits, which often relate to different aspects of her personal journey. She also enjoys landscapes in which she explores texture and colour.
Working intuitively, Vivien has developed her artwork through play - particularly with paint and with a gestural, free-flowing process. This process is often an emotive response to colour and where she “surprises herself when something wondrous emerges”.
Vivien works mainly with acrylic painting and water-colours as well as drawing, pastel and ink.
Influenced by artists such as New Zealand artists Francis Hodgkins and Rita Angus, Vivien loves researching the development of their art and life.
