Melissa Redfern’s visual art practice sits alongside her strong interest in creative writing.
Inspired by song lyrics, a number of her abstract paintings use words as a starting point. An avid book and magazine reader, as well as a personal journal writer, Melissa often uses these interests as inspiration for her visual artwork.
In one large painting she combines collage elements, including self-portrait photographs, words and magazine images, together with an intuitive feeling for paint.
In other artworks, through an experimentation with a spirograph tool, Melissa developed a series of drawings using the spirograph as well as free-hand drawings, combining geometry together with intuition.
Melissa’s work also often explores her love of nature and trees.
