Gabby’s practice is mostly digital. She also creates drawing using detailed coloured pencil and thick black pen for the outlines.  Whether working digitally with a stylus or on paper, it’s a similar process. Her digital process includes manually selecting the colours and simulating different brush styles. “I like digital because it makes the drawings look cleaner and more bold.”

Video games are a key source of ideas for Gabby’s work, especially the Kirby series from the early 1990s, a platforming series where Kirby eats everything in sight and gains superpowers! This is the basis for her online presence and a lot of her fan art.

She’s also inspired by cartoon network shows such as Regular Show, the Amazing World of Gumball – and loves the mix of different art styles this has.

Gabby has done commissioned artwork on the theme of neurodivergence, promoting understanding and awareness. Her favourite theme though is cats – her avatar SatsumaCat which is inspired by her cat Honey.

Gabby’s creative practice spans artwork and writing, which she sees as being closely connected. She writes stories set in existing video game worlds, and in alternative universe ‘what if’ scenarios.

In her work Gabby draws on her experience studying animation at South Essex College in the UK.

Andrea has embraced large-scale works using oil sticks, while also exploring the subtle nuance of watercolour. She has recently returned to painting in oils, marking a new chapter in her artistic exploration.
