Lux Cafe CoCA

More than 80 drawings inspired by the David Shrigley exhibition Lose Your Mind were featured in an exibition at CoCA’s Lux cafe.

The exhibition followed a series of visits to Lose Your Mind by twelve artists from Ōtautahi Creative Spaces. Although their work explored the style of Shrigley’s drawings, the subjects featured in the full range of Shrigley’s work including boots eggs and skeletons.  The drawings reflected Shrigley’s quirky, unsettling, confronting and humorous work.

The British artist’s outlook on life resonated with artist Kerry Gray. “I liked his ideas. I think we may have a similar personality. He has a critical, cynical way of looking at things, which is a world I’m very much immersed in. He doesn’t hold back or limit himself to certain subjects or artforms.”   Echoing Shrigley’s prolific output, Gray produced more than 35 drawings.

Shrigley’s exhibition had another very significant impact. It was the impetus for some artists to return to the central city for the first time since the earthquakes.
